Mary Patricia Brunner of Wilkes-Barre passed away peacefully in the presence of her loving family at her home on her 80th birthday, June 25, 2023.
Born June 25, 1943 in Wilkes-Barre she was the daughter of the late George and Mary Glod Manganella.
A Marymount High School graduate, Mary Pat earned her bachelor's degree from Misericordia University.
Mary Pat was a professional educator for thirty years. She taught at Kingston High School from 1965 to 1968, completing the remainder of her career at Wyoming Valley West, retiring in 1995.
Mary Pat married the love of her life, Lawrence Brunner, on October 28, 1972. Together they coached girl's and boy's track and cross-country teams at Wyoming Valley West from 1967 to 1983. They were the first husband-and-wife coaching team in the state.
Mary Pat was a member of the former Parish of Saint Therese, where she served as choir director for twenty years before its closing. She has been a Parish of Saint Nicholas member, where she was a cantor and choir member. She was deeply devoted to Saint Therese, The Little Flower.
Her best friend and loving companion, Lawrence Brunner, died on August 26, 2012. Her brothers, Jerome, and James Manganella, also preceded her in death.
Her nieces, Amber Malonis and her husband Chris, and Melissa Benson and her husband Jason; nephew David Manganello and his wife Barbara; great-nieces and nephews; her chosen sister, Mary Ann Butera and the Butera, Maley, and Sullivan families who always made her a part of family celebrations and memorable moments in their lives will miss her very much.
Mary Pat loved singing and always said her talent was God's gift. Please come to pray and sing as we gather for the Celebration of Mary Pat's Life on Saturday, July 1, 2023, at the Church of Saint Nicholas, South Washington Street in Wilkes-Barre. Visitation begins at 9 AM, followed by a Funeral Mass at 10 AM.
Mary Pat was an organ donor. She wanted to share with others so they may enjoy life as much as she did.
Donations to the Parish of Saint Nicholas or Blue Chip Farm Animal Refuge are preferred and will honor Mary Pat's memory.
