Muoi Thi Nguyen, 79, of Wilkes-Barre, peacefully entered eternal rest on November 7, 2021.
Born March 3, 1942, in Cao-Xa in the Province of Hung Yen, Vietnam, she was the youngest of ten children. Her family moved to Saigon during her youth, where she met and married her husband, Thong Khac Nguyen. In 1975 they left Vietnam with their three children, staying in a Guam refugee camp before settling in Northeast Pennsylvania with the assistance of Father Papka (Sacred Heart of Jesus, Saint Anthony's Church, St. Michael's Church) and sponsors of Forest City, PA.
Muoi worked for Gentex Corporation in Carbondale, was a member of the International Ladies Garment Workers Union and a sewing machine operator, and was later employed at Nardone Brothers.
Muoi was a devote Christian and a longtime member of St. Nicholas Parish. Friends and family have fond memories of her wonderful Vietnamese cooking along with her smile and giggle. She may have been small in physical stature but had immense strength and fortitude.
Muoi was preceded in death by her husband, Thong Khac Nguyen.
She will be greatly missed by her children Mary Nguyen, Brooklyn, NY; Peter Nguyen, Dupont, PA; Dr. Rose Nguyen (Dr. Russell Becker), Naples, FL; Dr. Ann Nguyen (John Gaffney), Oxford, FL; and grandchildren, Madeline and Lily Nguyen; Andrew, Olivia, and Alex Becker; Elizabeth, Sean, and Shamus Gaffney.
Friends are invited to celebrate Muoi's life. Visitation will be held Friday November 19, 2021, from 6 to 8 PM at McLaughlin's, 142 South Washington St., Wilkes - Barre. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 AM on Saturday, November 20, 2021 in the Church of Saint Nicholas. Burial to follow in Saint Hedwig's Cemetery.
