Alice Hoban Rinehimer, 91, of Wilkes-Barre passed away peacefully in the presence of her children on January 12, 2013.
Born on February 7, 1921 in Wilkes-Barre she was a daughter of the late Joseph W. and Genevieve Carpenter Hoban.
Alice graduated from Saint Ann’s Academy in 1939. That same year she won a Scarlett O’Hara Look-a-like Contest sponsored by The Boston Store and Paramount Theater prior to the opening of Gone with the Wind.
Alice worked for many years at The Boston Store, later Boscov’s, in the better dresses department. She took great pleasure helping her customers find the perfect dress for the occasion and visiting with old friends and making new friends.
She was a member of the Parish of Saint Nicholas.
Alice was preceded in death by her sister, Mary Kennedy, brothers, James, Joseph, Robert, Edward and Frank Hoban, and her former husband, Ernest D. Rinehimer, Jr.
She will be greatly missed by her children, Ellen and her husband Tom Ryndak of Davis, Illinois; Dr. Jim and his wife Maureen Rinehimer of Pocono Lake; Atty. Ruth Whalen of Wilkes-Barre; Bill and his wife Melissa Rinehimer of Holland, Pennsylvania; nine grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; brother, Don Hoban of Sausalito, California; and many nieces and nephews.
Alice’s family thanks the staff at The Laurels Health & Rehabilitation for their kindness to her through the years.
Celebration of Alice’s Life will be held Saturday, January 19th at 10 AM from McLaughlin’s – The Family Funeral Service, 142 South Washington Street in Wilkes-Barre with Funeral Mass at 11 AM in the Church of Saint Nicholas. Interment will be in Saint Mary’s Cemetery in Hanover Township.
Visitation will be held at McLaughlin’s on Friday, January 18, 2013 from 5 to 8 PM.
