Alice L. Tierney, formerly of Wilkes-Barre and a resident of New Jersey for the past fifteen years died Thursday, January 21st at the age of 98.
Born April 22, 1917 in Plains she was a daughter of the late Thomas and Elizabeth Howley Moran.
Alice was a graduate of Sacred Heart High School in Plains and Wilkes-Barre Business College.
Alice was a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Nothing meant more to her than her family and her church. She would always open her home to anyone for a hot meal and special dessert. Everyone who came into contact with her felt her love and generosity.
Her husband of fifty-three years, Joseph E. Tierney died January 2, 1995. Sisters, Mary Moran, Catherine Baltz, Sr. Mary Augusta (Elizabeth) Moran, R.S.M. and Margaret Bowdle, and brothers, Joseph, Francis and Thomas Moran also preceded her in death.
Alice will be greatly missed by her children, Dr. John and his wife Mary Theresa Tierney of North Carolina, Mary Beth and her husband Daniel Foster of New Jersey and Jo Ann and her husband Robert Kirkland of New Jersey; nine grandchildren; sixteen great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews, other family and friends.
Celebration of Alice’s Life will be held Friday with visitation beginning at 8 AM at McLaughlin’s, 142 South Washington Street in Wilkes-Barre followed by a Funeral Mass at 9:30 AM in the Church of Saint Mary of the Immaculate Conception. Interment will be in Saint John the Evangelist Cemetery in Pittston.
Memorial donations are preferred and may be made to the Sisters of Mercy in Dallas.
