Ann Evans, 95, a longtime resident of Kingston, passed away peacefully in the presence of her family on Monday, August 12, 2024.
Born September 20, 1928 in Olean, New York she was the daughter of the late Benjamin and Georgia Conley Luntz.
Ann earned her bachelor's degree from Saint Bonaventure University, where she met the love of her life, fellow student George R. Evans. Their legacy there continued as their granddaughter, Julia, also graduated from Saint Bonaventure.
Prior to having children, Ann worked as a social worker. She then dedicated her life to raising her family. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother.
Her commitment to volunteering greatly benefited her community. Ann was actively involved with the Junior League, Meals On Wheels, Mercy Hospital Auxiliary, and Children's Theater for many years.
Ann's enthusiasm for life was infectious. She was blessed with many dear friends and enjoyed The Bridge Club, Huntsville Golf Club, traveling, winters in Jupiter, Florida, summers at the shore, and, as a true sports fan, one memorable trip to The Masters.
After forty-eight years of marriage, her husband, George R. Evans, preceded her in death on December 29, 2000. Ann later found a dear friend in Edward C. Grimes, who, after ten years together, preceded her in death on September 27, 2016.
Her daughters Karen Evans Kaufer and her husband Richard Kaufer, VMD, Lynn Evans Biga and her husband Bernard Biga, and Barbara Evans Mericle and her husband William Mericle; grandchildren Zachary Kaufer, Lauren Biga and her husband Joshua Edwards, Alexandra Biga, DDS and her husband CDR Don Lunaria, USN, Julia Mericle and her fiancé Tanner Cole, and Joshua Mericle and his wife Korina Izquierdo; and great-grandchildren Nora Lunaria, Benjamin Edwards, and Maxwell Edwards will miss her very much.
Ann's entire family is grateful for the kindness and compassion shown to her from so many people during her brief illness. We are profoundly grateful to Mark Schiowitz, MD for the exceptional care and compassion shown to Ann for so many years. Mark was not just her doctor but a true friend.
Celebration of Ann's Life begins Thursday, August 22, 2024, with visitation from 5 to 7:30 PM at McLaughlin's, 142 South Washington Street in Wilkes-Barre. It continues on Friday, August 23, 2024, with gathering beginning at 9:30 AM and a Funeral Mass at 10 AM in the Church of Saint Ignatius Loyola, 339 North Maple Avenue in Kingston.
