Anthony R. Metroka, 84, of the Newtown section of Hanover Township passed away on Friday, February 15, 2019.
Born December 3, 1934 in Swoyersville he was a son of the late Anthony and Mary Polk Metroka.
A graduate of Swoyersville High School, he continued his education at Cornell University.
An Army veteran, he served two years in Germany prior to the Vietnam Era.
Tony retired in 1991 as regional produce manager of ACME Markets after thirty-eight years with the company. He was a member of UFCW Local 72.
Tony remained involved in local politics through his life and was a member of the Blind Association of Luzerne County. He was an enthusiastic fan of the Eagles and Phillies, and a minor fan of the Steelers. He loved Penn State Football and attended many games.
Tony was a handyman and a productive gardener who shared his crops with neighbors. He enjoyed fishing with his brother-in-law, Jack and attending school events with his daughters.
His twin brother, Daniel 'Bob' (Jean) Metroka, and sisters, Helen (George) Cervenak and Dorothy (Joseph) Lykin, preceded him in death.
Tony will be greatly missed by his wife, the former Gertrude Polons; daughters, Kimberly and Atty. Colleen Metroka of Hanover Township, and Janelle and her husband Russell Winsock of Wyoming; grandchildren, Lorenzo Metroka and Brittney and Nicholas Winsock; sister-in-law, Lucille Polons; his loyal dog, August; nieces, nephews, other family and friends.
Celebration of Anthony's Life will be held Tuesday with gathering at 9 AM followed by a Funeral Mass at 9:30 AM in the Church of Saint Mary of the Immaculate Conception, 130 South Washington Street in Wilkes-Barre.
At Tony's request, memorial donations may be made to the church.
