Anthony Michael Smith, Sr, 75, of Forty Fort, died on August 25, 2024.
Born August 19, 1949 in the Fishtown section of Philadelphia he was a son of the late Lawrence Smith and Theresa Amoratis Smith.
Anthony graduated from Bok Technical High School in Philadelphia where he studied optometry. He served in the Army from 1968 to 1974, and was awarded the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, and Vietnam Campaign Medal and earned the rank of Specialist-5 (E5).
In his civilian career, Anthony retired as a master machinist, working on national defense projects. He enjoyed building models, target shooting, camping, and, most of all, spending time with his grandchildren.
His brother Steve and nephew Christopher preceded him in death.
Anthony is survived by his sons Joseph Widecan (Bernadette), Anthony Smith Jr (Sharon), Mark Smith, and Michael Smith; daughter Samantha Savage (Shawn); step-son Harry Filoon; seven grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and numerous other relatives.
Anthony's family is grateful for the care provided by the healthcare professionals at Geisinger Wyoming Valley and the Wilkes-Barre DVAMC.
A private inurnment will be held at Washington Crossing National Cemetery in Newtown. A celebration of Anthony's Life will be held at a future date.
Donations to the American Legion, the Wilkes Barre DVAMC, or the PTSD Foundation of America are preferred and will honor Anthony's memory.
