Barbara Johnson Burke

Barbara J. Burke, 88, passed away peacefully in the presence of her loving family at her home in Wilkes-Barre on July 19, 2024.

Born January 3, 1936 in Brooklyn, New York she was a daughter of the late Alexander and Ehtel King Johnson.

Barbara was married to James R. Burke, and they started their family in Brooklyn before moving to Pennsylvania. They lived in Hunlock Creek for a few years before relocating to Wilkes-Barre.

Barbara was a proud union member and worked for InterMetro for many years before retiring.

Barbara was a Bingo enthusiast and enjoyed spending time with her Silver Sneakers friends.

Her husband died on September 30, 1992. A son, James R., Jr., died on April 23, 2013. Sisters and brothers also preceded her in death.

Her children Bonnie Sult of Vermont, Joyce Cerase of Hunlock Creek, Michael Burke of Boyertown, and Edward and Kevin Burke of Hunlock Creek; ten grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; sister Irene of New York; brother Eugene of Courtdale; and other family and friends will miss her very much.

Celebration of Barbara's Life takes place Monday, July 22, 2024, with visitation from 6 to 8 PM at McLaughlin's, 142 South Washington Street in Wilkes-Barre.
