Barbara Mary Zideck, a resident of Kingston, passed away Monday, December 13, 2010, after a valiant fight with cancer.
Born August 31, 1926 in Plains she was a daughter of the late Michael and Barbara Dora Mahilo Zideck.
Barbara resided in North Plainfield, New Jersey for more than fifty years prior to moving back to Northeastern Pennsylvania. She served as caregiver to the family of Almon Peter and Sadye Doty of Plainfield, helping raise the Doty children and grandchildren.
A long-time member of Saint Joseph’s Catholic Parish in Plainfield, in 1992 Barbara moved to Wilkes Barre where she was a member of the Parish of Our Lady of Hope.
Barbara was committed to many Catholic charities and causes and extremely loyal in her devotion to the faith. She touched the lives of countless people with her kindness and unselfishness. She was an inspiration and source of joy to all who were lucky enough to know her.
Barbara was preceded in death by her sisters, Margaret Jankowski, Wilkes-Barre, and Mary Vaughn, Throop, and her brothers, Charles Zideck and Walter Zideck of Billings, Montana.
Surviving are her niece Carolyn Ruiz, and great nephews, Joseph and Anthony, with whom she resided; Barbara Hollasch and husband Edward, Milford, New Jersey and nephew Edward Jankowski and his wife Paula and son, Joseph of Franklin Park, New Jersey; several godchildren and her extended family members, the Duffy family.
Celebration of Barbara’s Life will be held Thursday at 9 AM from McLaughlin’s Family Funeral Service, 142 South Washington Street in Wilkes-Barre with Funeral Mass at 9:30 AM in the Church of Maternity of the Blessed Virgin Mary. Interment will be in Saint Mary’s Cemetery in Hanover Township.
Visitation will be held at McLaughlin’s on Wednesday from 4 to 8 PM.
