Christopher Francis Ferry, 41, passed away on Tuesday, November 14, 2023, in Boston, Massachusetts.
Chris was born on April 5, 1982, to Charlotte Ferry and the late Gerald Ferry. He was raised in Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania, and graduated from E.L. Meyers High School as part of the Class of 2000.
Chris dove in-depth into fields he was passionate about. He was an enthusiastic photographer, constantly working on developing new skills to take photos of subjects, including landscapes and flowers, and even using a telescope for astrophotography. He loved the arts and music, especially attending live shows, particularly at the old Café Metropolis. You could have discussions with him about 90s hip-hop (an interest that even led to a late-night radio show), the philosophical interpretations of Albert Camus, or strategies for vintage Magic: the Gathering.
In 2011, Chris moved to Boston, a city that he loved. He spent his time honing his photography skills on the flowers and animals in the Arnold Arboretum, taking in the city's historical sights and enjoying the lively art and music scene. Most recently, he worked at the National Park Service, primarily at the USS Constitution Museum, where he shared his enthusiasm and expertise about Boston and national history with visitors.
In 2016, Chris was diagnosed with brain cancer. Despite this, he continued to explore his passions and made sure to appreciate every day that he had. This diagnosis led to him doing a deep dive into the topic of brain cancer and eventually developing The Brain Cancer Podcast. His goal was to provide a resource for patients and caregivers who were feeling scared and overwhelmed so that no one would have to go through this diagnosis alone. He comforted people in incredibly challenging circumstances and provided a supportive ear to anyone who needed it. He served as a volunteer and mentor for the American Brain Tumor Association, directly supporting newly diagnosed patients. While he did not want to be defined by his disease, he turned his diagnosis into a source of support for so many others. The brain cancer community will miss Chris and his calming, supportive voice.
Chris will be sadly missed by his mother, along with siblings Brian and Alissa, and his aunts and uncles, including Diane Brown, Joyce Crumley, Beth Crumley, Jack and Jennifer Ferry, and Catherine Margaret and Dennis Curtin, his cousins, and his friends.
Celebration of Chris's Life begins on Sunday, November 19, 2023, with visitation from 5 to 8 PM at McLaughlin's, 142 South Washington Street in Wilkes-Barre. It continues there on Monday, November 20, 2023, with a Funeral Service at 9:30 AM.
Donations to the charity Build A Cure for Brain Cancer are preferred and will honor Chris's memory.
