Daniel Bartley

Daniel L. Bartley, 84, of Bear Creek and a longtime resident of the East End section of Wilkes-Barre died Friday.

Born May 2, 1929 in Wilkes-Barre he was a son of the late Daniel and Gertrude Helfrich Bartley.

Dan was a 1947 graduate of Saint Nicholas High School.

An Army veteran of the Korean War he proudly served our country from 1951 to 1953.

Dan was chief switchman for Bell Telephone when he retired in 1988 after forty years with the company. He was a member of the Bell Telephone Pioneers.

On April 21, 1956 Dan married the love of his life, Helen ‘Honey’ Callahan. They celebrated their thirty-seven years together before she died on May 13, 1993. A sister, Frances Ducey and brother, Joseph Bartley also preceded him in death.

He will be greatly missed by his children, Daniel L. and his wife Lillian Bartley of Lehman, Marilyn and her husband John Mahon of Bear Creek, Richard and his wife Maureen Bartley of Teaneck, New Jersey and Janice and her husband Patrick O’Brien of Harvey’s Lake; grandchildren, Kaitlin and Gina Bartley, Victoria, Kaili and John Mahon, Molly, Richard and Liam Bartley, Jennifer, Patrick and Jillian O’Brien and Kyle Gallagher; a great-grandson, Samuel Abod; sister, Gertrude Bartley of Kingston; nieces, nephews, other family and friends.

Celebration of Daniel’s Life will be held Tuesday at 8:30 AM from McLaughlin’s – The Family Funeral Service, 142 South Washington Street in Wilkes-Barre with Funeral Mass at 9:30 AM in the Church of Saint Nicholas. Interment will be in Saint Mary's Cemetery in Hanover Township.

Visitation will be held at McLaughlin's on Monday from 5 to 8 PM.

Memorial donations are preferred and may be made to the Salvation Army.
