Daniel J. George, Sr., 84, a former resident of Wilkes-Barre and Port Charlotte, Florida died Wednesday at Hazleton General Hospital.
Born November 12, 1925 in Wilkes-Barre he was a son of the late William and Edith Mitchell George.
Dan was a graduate of G.A.R. Memorial High School.
An Army veteran of World War II serving with the 13th Signal Service Group in the European Theater he reenlisted during the Korean Conflict and was discharged as Sergeant First Class following five and one-half years of service.
Dan worked for Breakstone, Hargood Foods and Folz Vending Company before moving to Florida in 1972. There he was employed in various capacities by General Development of Port Charlotte until his retirement.
Dan returned to Pennsylvania last year and enjoyed singing with residents and staff at The Laurels in Hazleton.
His wife, Lois Atherholt George and brothers, Robert, William, Louis and Rev. Dr. Henry George preceded him in death.
Surviving are sons, Daniel J., Jr. and his wife MaryAnn George of Wilkes-Barre, James John George of Arcadia, Florida and Wayne David George of Wilkes-Barre; grandchildren, Kimberly and her husband Michael Baron of Hanover Township, Christopher and his wife Sylvia George of North Carolina and Michelle George of Florida; seven great-grandchildren; close friends from Florida, Holly, Hank and Ann, George and Karen and Betty.
Pastor Kevin Straka will lead a Celebration of Daniel’s Life on Saturday at 10 AM at McLaughlin's Family Funeral Service, 142 South Washington Street in Wilkes-Barre. Interment will be in Memorial Shrine Park in Carverton.
Visitation will be held at McLaughlin’s on Friday from 4 to 7 PM.
