Donald E. Engel, Sr., 91, of Kingston, passed away peacefully in the presence of his family on Friday, October 14, 2022.
Born November 24, 1930 in Wilkes-Barre he was a son of the late John and Irene Armbruster Engel.
A 1948 graduate of Saint Nicholas High School, he continued his education at night at Wilkes University, completing coursework in accounting.
Don honorably served our country as a member of the US Naval Reserve for twelve years.
He retired after serving more than thirty years as a department director for Blue Cross of Northeastern Pennsylvania.
Don was a member of the Parish of Saint Nicholas and a past member of the Kingston Citizens Advisory Board. In his retirement, he volunteered for the PA Department of Aging.
Don and his wife, the former Rose Rogers, were married for more than sixty years. They enjoyed taking cruises to Bermuda, visiting the island numerous times. Devoted to his family, he took great pleasure in attending his children's and grandchildren's school activities and sporting events.
His brothers John and Leo and sister Arlene preceded him in death.
His wife Rose; sons Donald E., Jr. and his wife Terry Engel, and Robert Engel; grandchildren Donald E., III and Tara and her husband Tommy; great-grandson Caleb; sister Joan and her husband James Richie; nieces, nephews, other family, and friends will miss him very much.
Don's family is grateful for the care he received through the years from Dr. Dennis Michael Fisher and the compassionate care of the staff at Geisinger South Wilkes-Barre and Riverstreet Manor in his final weeks.
Celebration of Don's Life begins Wednesday, October 19, 2022, with visitation from 9 to 10 AM at McLaughlin's, 142 South Washington Street in Wilkes-Barre. It continues with a Funeral Mass at 10:30 AM in the Church of Saint Nicholas.
