Donald Rogers, 70, passed away peacefully at his home in Wilkes-Barre on Thursday, December 19, 2024.
Don was born on April 6, 1954, to the late Geraldine Loftus Rogers and Charles H. Rogers and grew up in Mountain Top. He was a graduate of Bishop Hoban High School and King's College. He earned his Juris Doctor from Temple University Beasley School of Law and was admitted to the Pennsylvania Bar Association.
He began his private practice at the Law Office of Lowery & Rogers in 1979, working alongside his son, Attorney Michael Rogers, for the past thirteen years.
In addition to his private practice, Don represented the City of Wilkes-Barre in workers' compensation and Luzerne County Domestic Relations for forty years. He also served as counsel for the Coal Street Redevelopment Authority, PIAA District II, and the General Municipal Authority.
Don's true passion in life was his family, including his beloved wife, Terese Frank Rogers, with whom he celebrated forty-one years of marriage, and his children: Attorney Michael Rogers, of Wilkes-Barre; Katherine Rogers, of Miami Beach; and Donald Rogers, of West Wyoming. He enjoyed coaching his sons' basketball teams at St. Nicholas-St. Mary's and baseball teams in South Wilkes-Barre. He was an avid fan of Notre Dame football and the New York Yankees.
In addition to his wife and children, Don is survived by his brothers and their wives: Dr. John and Margaret Rogers, Charles and Fran Rogers, and Attorney Richard and Sally Rogers. He is also survived by his sisters- and brothers-in-law: Annie Kolanowski, Ph.D., Tony and Susan Rutchauskas, Karen and Dave Bird, Mary Pape, Attorney Carl and Jane Frank, Richard and Janice Frank, Michael and Sue Frank, Alice and Kevin Foley, and Heidi and Dave Bertram. Don is also remembered fondly by numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his mother- and father-in-law, Elizabeth and Carl Frank; his brothers-in-law, John Mooney, Fred Pape, Kollie Kolanowski, and Robert Ochreiter; nephews, Mark Rogers, Mark Kolanowski, and John Richards; and his cherished dog, Happy.
Don was especially proud of his son Donald's service in the U.S. Army and was a dedicated supporter of veterans' charities. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations in his memory to the USO (www.uso.org).
