Dorothy McDade McAvoy, 100, of Fairfield died Wednesday at St. Joseph's Ministries in Maryland.
Born November 26, 1915 in Wilkes-Barre she was a daughter of the late James and Mary O'Neill McDade.
A 1932 graduate of Saint Mary's High School, she attended Misericordia University.
In 1934 she married the love of her life, Donald F. McAvoy. They were married for fifty-four years when Donald preceded Dorothy in death on May 30, 1988.
Dorothy was a member of the Church of Saint Mary in Fairfield and its Parish Council of Catholic Women, Saint Titus Senior Citizens in East Norriton.
A son, James J. McAvoy; son-in-law, Stephen Kowalick; and brothers, Leo T. and Joseph P. McDade also preceded her in death.
Dorothy will be greatly missed by her children, Anne M. (Tom) Saskiewicz of Exton, Donald F. (Katherine) McAvoy of Eagleville and Dorothy M Kowalick of Fairfield; twelve grandchildren; fifteen great-grandchildren; four great-greatgrandchildren; cousins and friends.
Celebration of Dorothy’s Life will begin Thursday with visitation from 7 to 9 PM at McLaughlin’s, 142 South Washington Street in Wilkes-Barre and continue there Friday with gathering at 8:30 AM followed by a Funeral Mass at 9:30 AM in the Church of Saint Mary of the Immaculate Conception. Interment will be in Saint Mary's Cemetery.
Memorial donations are preferred and may be made to Mission of Mercy.
