Dorothy Jean McGraw, 78, of the East End section of Wilkes-Barre passed away peacefully at her home on Wednesday, May 16, 2018.
Born January 25, 1940 in Wilkes-Barre she was a daughter of the late Michael and Mary Seabers Schintz. Dorothy was a 1953 graduate of Holy Saviour School and 1957 graduate of Coughlin High School.
Dorothy worked for Kaufmanns and Hess department stores for several years. Before retiring she was an attendant at King’s College for twenty years and was a recipient of the All College Award as a staff member in 1999 and 2005.
Dorothy was a member of the Parish of Holy Saviour where she was involved with the Altar and Rosary Society, which she served as Secretary, and School Guild. She taught 2nd grade CCD there for twelve years.
Her husband, Joseph E. McGraw died January 20, 2007. A grandson, Jared Joseph Fox; great-grandson, Logan Panaway; infant sister, Elenor; sister, Marie Warmouth; and brothers, Leo, Joseph, Michael, A. Paul and Gerald Schintz also preceded her in death.
Dorothy will be greatly missed by her children, Anne and her husband Bernard Tarutis of Wilkes-Barre, Maureen and her husband Chris O’Neill of Penn Lake, Joseph and his wife Frances J. McGraw of Hunlock Creek, and Patrick and his wife Alea McGraw of Wilkes-Barre; grandchildren, Tara, Ryan, Megan, Allison, Tricia, Tia, Kate, Joseph, Hailey and Matthew; great-grandchildren, Payton, Laicey, Chloe, Ja’Kari and Norah; nieces, nephews, other family and friends.
Celebration of Dorothy’s Life will begin Friday with visitation from 5 to 8 PM at McLaughlin’s, 142 South Washington Street in Wilkes-Barre and continue Saturday with a Funeral Mass at 9:30 AM in the Church of Saint Stanislaus Kostka, 666 North Main Street in Wilkes-Barre. Interment will be in Saint Mary’s Cemetery.
Memorial donations are preferred and may be made to Saint Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
