Edward J. ‘Dutchie’ Lenahan, 84, of Rear Main Street in Sugar Notch died in the presence of his family at his home on Monday.
Born June 13, 1926 he was a life-long resident of Sugar Notch and a son of the late James A. and Ceceilia Caffrey Lenahan.
Dutchie was a graduate of Saint Mary's High School in Wilkes-Barre.
Mr. Lenahan owned and operated the Lenahan Oil Company and Service Station in Sugar Notch before retiring.
Dutchie was a member of the Parish of Holy Family, Knights of Columbus Saint Dymphna Council 12814 and the Ancient Order of Hibernians. He was a true die-hard fan of the New York Yankees.
His wife of fifty years, Kathleen Gallagher Lenahan died in 1999. A son, Kevin died in 1991 and a sister, Ann 'Honey' McDade also preceded him in death.
He will be missed by his children, James A. Lenahan, Marguerite Barket, Kelly Boyle and Edward J. Lenahan, Jr.; son-in-law, Michael Boyle; nine grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; sisters, Mary Conmy of San Diego, California and Sheila Durkin of Buffalo, New York; nieces and nephews.
Celebration of Dutchie’s Life will be held Friday at 10 AM from McLaughlin's Family Funeral Service, 142 South Washington Street in Wilkes-Barre with Funeral Mass at 11 AM in the Church of Holy Family. Interment will be in Saint Mary's Cemetery in Hanover Township.
Visitation will be held at McLaughlin’s on Thursday from 5 to 8 PM.
