Eleanor Loftus, 97, of Wilkes-Barre and York, passed into the Hands of the Lord on September 9, 2024.

Born September 1, 1927 in Wilkes-Barre she was a daughter of the late Andrew and Anna Kuhl.

A Saint Nicholas High School graduate, Eleanor worked in the garment industry until retiring early to care for her ailing mother.

Eleanor was a devout member of the Parish of Saint Nicholas - Saint Mary. Her life was a testament to her unwavering faith and service to the Lord. She held a special devotion to the Blessed Mother and faithfully recited the rosary every day.

Her son James Loftus; brother Robert Kuhl; sisters Dorothy Swan and Ruth Gavin preceded her in death. She will have a special angel waiting for her in heaven, her beloved granddaughter Jennifer Cooney.

Her devoted daughter and son-in-law Patricia and James Cooney of York; daughter-in-law Nancy Loftus; grandchildren James and his wife Maureen Cooney, Tim and his wife Coleen Cooney, and William and his wife Sarah Beth Loftus; great-grandchildren James, Kate, Colin, Jack, and Declan Cooney; and other family and friends will miss her very much.

Eleanor's family is grateful for the loving, compassionate care she received from the Providence Place of Dover staff and the special care she received from Hospice of York.

Celebration of Eleanor's Life takes place Wednesday, September 18, 2024, with visitation beginning at 9:45 AM at McLaughlin's, 142 South Washington Street in Wilkes-Barre. It continues with a Funeral Mass at 11 AM in the Church of Saint Nicholas.
