Elinor Boyle Achey, 82, a lifelong resident of Wilkes-Barre, passed through Heaven's Gates on Friday, April 26, 2024 while her family sat beside her.
Elinor was preceded in death by her parents, Frank and Elinor McGinley Boyle, and her loving grandson Danny Mihnovich.
Ellie graduated from Coughlin High School in 1957 and worked various jobs throughout the valley, including Heavenly Shoe Factory, Zollingers, Neddoff's Restaurant, Popeye's, Sunshine Market, Goldstein's Deli, Gatorade, and last but certainly not least, Aties Bakery. She never let the grass grow under her feet and was always keeping busy until her COPD got the better of her.
She leaves behind her daughter Jill Mihnovich (John) and her son John (Lori). She was blessed with four grandchildren, Ashley Levandoski (QJ), Michael Mihnovich (Amanda), Bryanna Achey (Greg), and Caity Georgatos (Arche), and seven precious great-grandchildren.
Her stature never measured her passion for life. She loved to travel and especially loved New York City. When she wasn't traveling outside the area, she loved spending summers at her camper in Slumber Valley in Tunkhannock, soaking up the sounds and smells of nature. An avid animal lover, she had her share of many pets, but none came close to her beloved Bernese Mountain dog, Yeager. He was her ride-or-die buddy. I'm sure they are all waiting for her at the Rainbow Bridge.
Celebration of Elinor's Life begins Tuesday, April 30, 2024, with visitation from 4 to 7 PM at McLaughlin's, 142 South Washington Street in Wilkes-Barre. It continues there on Wednesday, May 1, 2024, with gathering at 9 AM followed by a Funeral Mass at 10 AM in the Church of Saint Mary of the Immaculate Conception.
Donations to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital are preferred and will honor Elinor's memory: stjude.org/donate
