Ellen A. Mainzer passed away peacefully on Friday, February 17, 2012 at Hospice Community Care after a courageous battle with cancer.
Born in Philadelphia on April 25, 1938, Ellen was a daughter of the late James F. and Anna (Boyce) Fennell, Sr.
Following her graduation from Kingston High School, Ellen attended College Misericordia.
Prior to her marriage to John E. Mainzer of Dallas, Ellen was employed by RCA Corporation in Mountain Top. After the births of her three children, Ellen devoted herself to her family and was a dedicated volunteer with many organizations, including Saint Jude’s Parish and School, Boy Scouts of America, Mercy Hospital Candy Striper Program and, in recent years, Catherine McAuley House.
A loyal friend, she brought great joy to the many people whose lives she touched. Ellen had a love of travel and reading and enjoyed visiting family and friends. Her most cherished times were spent with her family, and most recently her grandchildren, who were the light of her life. She was a faithful member of the Parish of Saint Nicholas in Wilkes-Barre.
Ellen was preceded in death by a brother, James F. Fennell, Jr.
She will be missed by her devoted husband, John, of Dallas; son, John Audi and his wife Janet of Valrico, Florida; daughters, Barbara Richardson and her husband Glenn of Mountain Top and Judie Spence and her husband Bill of St. Charles, Illinois; grandchildren, Alec and Erin Richardson of Mountain Top and Kate and Jack Spence of St. Charles, Illinois; brother, John F. Fennell of Fredericksburg, Virginia; many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Ellen’s family extends their gratitude to Dr. Bruce Saidman and the staff of Medical Oncology Associates of Kingston as well as the staff of Hospice Community Care for their incredible kindness and care for Ellen.
Celebration of Ellen’s Life will be held Monday with a Funeral Mass at 10:30 AM in the Church of Saint Nicholas, 226 South Washington Street in Wilkes-Barre.
Relatives and friends are invited to visit on Sunday from 4 to 7 PM at McLaughlin’s – The Family Funeral Service, 142 South Washington Street in Wilkes-Barre.
A private interment will be held in Saint Ignatius Cemetery in Kingston.
