Gartrell P. Hooper, 93, of Greenwave Boulevard in Larksville died Wednesday at Partridge Tippett Nursing Facility at Wesley Village where he had been a guest since 10 July.
Born 15 January 1916 in Wilkes-Barre he was a son of the late John G. and Sallie Dotter Hooper.
Gartrell was a 1934 graduate of G.A.R. Memorial High School.
A lifetime printer, Mr. Hooper was employed by Jennings Press, Square Printing Company and, until his retirement, Wilkes-Barre Publishing Company.
Gartrell was a member of Second Welsh Congregational Church, a charter member of Rolling Mill Hill Church Bowling League and Communication Workers of America, Local 187 Typographical Union.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Thirza L. Williams Hooper, his son John G. 'Jack' Hooper, step-daughter, Judith Honeywell Bobin, brothers, Harold, John and Robert Hooper, and sisters, Dorothea Taylor and Ruth Evans.
Surviving are:
daughter-in-law, Marion Graver Hooper of Wilkes-Barre;
Grandsons, Kevin, his wife Kelly and their children, Sean, Austin, Tyler and Meghan Hooper of Harleysville, Brian, his wife Nancy and their daughter Nicole Hooper of Ocean Pines, Maryland and Mark and his son Chase Hooper of Wilkes-Barre.
A celebration of Gartrell’s life will be led by his nephew, Reverend William Williams on Saturday at 11:30 AM at McLaughlin Family Funeral Service, 142 South Washington Street in Wilkes-Barre. Entombment will be in the mausoleum at Oak Lawn Cemetery.
