Gertrude E. Bartley, 91, formerly of West Saint Mary’s Road in Hanover Township died Thursday.
Born May 17, 1922 in Wilmington, Delaware she was a daughter of the late Daniel and Gertrude Helfrich Bartley.
Gertrude was a graduate of Saint Nicholas High School.
Before retiring Gertrude was secretary to the Dean of Students at King's College for many years.
Gertrude enjoyed taking bus trips and vacations with friends and tracing her ancestry through Ireland.
A member of the Parish of Saint Nicholas, Gertrude was a devout Catholic and was generous toward numerous charitable causes.
Her true love was her family of nieces and nephews whom she taught to be loving and giving individuals through her example and many life lessons.
Her sister, Frances Ducey and brothers, Daniel and Joseph Bartley preceded her in death.
Gertrude was loved and cared for, and will be greatly missed, by her many nieces and nephews and great-nieces and -nephews; and her sister-in-law, Jean Bartley of Bear Creek.
Celebration of Gertrude’s Life will begin Monday at 8:30 AM from McLaughlin’s – The Family Funeral Service, 142 South Washington Street in Wilkes-Barre with Funeral Mass at 9:30 AM in the Church of Saint Nicholas. Interment will be in Saint Mary's Cemetery in Hanover Township.
Visitation will be held at McLaughlin's on Sunday from 2 to 4 PM.
