Gertrude A. Foley, Billie, 86, of Wilkes-Barre, passed away on Saturday, March 25, 2023.
Born October 12, 1936 in Wilkes-Barre she was a daughter of the late Cephas and Gertrude Williams Clayworth.
An E.L. Meyers High School graduate, Gertrude continued her education at Wilkes-Barre Business College.
After graduation, Gertrude started her career as an administrative secretary with Wyoming National Bank moving later to First Eastern Bank and its successor, PNC Bank. She worked for the Religious Community of the Sisters of Mercy in Dallas before retiring.
Gertrude was a member of Firwood United Methodist Church, where she actively created the Bell Choir and Children's Choir. She was a more than fifty-year member of the General Federation of Women's Clubs, serving as President for two years. Gertrude was also instrumental in forming the girls' programs of the South Wilkes-Barre Mini Mohawks.
On November 9, 1957, Gertrude married the love of her life, John Charles Foley. Together, she and Lou raised their family.
Gertrude will be remembered as a wonderful mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend.
Her husband, John, passed away on January 1, 2020. A sister, Evelyn Lisman, and brother, Donald Clayworth, also preceded her in death.
Her children, Luanne of Wilkes-Barre, Cheryl and her husband Jeff Hartman of Shickshinny, Richard and his wife Toni of Plains, Mark of Wilkes-Barre, and Sean and his wife Lisa of Mountain Top; grandchildren, Kayci and her husband Donald Brady, Kelly Konopki, Trudi and her husband Joseph Dorbad, Amy Lynn Konopki, Caitlin Foley, Sean Thomas Foley, and Madison Foley; great-grandchildren, Claire and Kennedy Brady, and Cameron Dorbad; brother-in-law, John Lisman; many nieces and nephews whom she considered her children; other family and friends will miss her very much.
Celebration of Gertrude's Life takes place Thursday, March 30, 2023, with visitation from 5 to 8 PM at McLaughlin's, 142 South Washington Street in Wilkes-Barre.
