Gloria Jean Banick, 75, a longtime resident of the Wilkes-Barre area, passed away on Wednesday, October 17, 2018.
Born in Scranton, she was a daughter of the late Dr. Vincent and Mary Ann (Munchak) Banick.
Gloria was a graduate of the former Saint Ann's Academy in Wilkes-Barre. She earned her bachelor of arts degree in English and Secondary Education with a minor in Drama from Marywood College, Class of 1964. After Marywood she completed the coursework for a Masters in Speech and Drama with a minor in English at Catholic University of America, Washington, D.C. where she was a member of the National Players Classical Touring Company 1966-67, traveling throughout the country performing Shakespeare's The Merchant of Venice and The Birds, an ancient Greek comedy by Aristophanes.
Gloria loved the arts, was a voracious reader and devoted her professional life to volunteer community service in the Wilkes-Barre area including YMCA tutoring, Volunteers for Literacy at Wilkes University and the Greenhouse Center where she started the Education Unit and served as Editor of their monthly newsletter.
She was preceded in death by her parents and an infant sister.
Surviving are her sisters, Olivia Banick of Mesquite, TX and Regina of New York; and numerous cousins.
Memorial services will be held at a later date.
