Hallie Lee Herba, 74, of Glenview, Illinois suddenly passed away as a result of a brain hemorrhage on September 29th.
Born September 27, 1938 in Wilkes-Barre she was a daughter of the late Fred and Ruth Hally Lee.
Hallie worked in the mammography area of the x-ray department at Rush-Presbyterian-Saint Luke’s Hospital in Chicago, where diagnostic assessments for breast tumors were made. It was there that she met her husband, Edward Herba, MD, a neurologist at the hospital. They married in Wilkes-Barre on May 24, 1969.
Hallie was also involved in the patient-family relations department of the hospital, addressing issues and problems related to patient care in the hospital setting. This role was unique for its time and remains an early model for the patient advocate of today. She was also a member of the Women’s Board of the former Grant Hospital in Chicago.
She will be greatly missed by her husband of forty-three years, Edward; a brother, Fred and his wife Ginny Lee of California; nieces and nephews and immediate members of the Kupstas and Lee families.
Celebration of Hallie’s Life will be held Tuesday at 9:30 AM from McLaughlin’s – The Family Funeral Service, 142 South Washington Street in Wilkes-Barre with Funeral Mass at 10:30 AM in the Church of Saint Mary of the Immaculate Conception. Interment will be in Saint Mary’s Cemetery in Hanover Township.
Memorial donations to local brain stroke programs are preferred.
