Harold E. Hirthler, Hap, 88, a lifelong resident of Wilkes-Barre, peacefully passed away in the presence of his loving family at his home on Tuesday, June 22, 2021.
Born October 26, 1932 in Wilkes-Barre he was a son of the late Harold E. and Emma Dearden Hirthler.
Hap was a 1950 graduate of E.L. Meyers High School. He worked for Gorman's Dairy for several years before venturing out on his own. He was a professional painting and decorating contractor for nearly sixty years, most of which were under the Hirthler Painting and Decorating name.
Hap was a past president and member of the Wilkes-Barre Coin Club and a member of the Painting and Decorating Contractors of America.
An infant son, James; granddaughter, Amanda; sons-in-law, Robert Frail and Thomas Jones; brother, George; and sisters, Beverly Reese and Florence O'Day, preceded him in death.
His wife of sixty-nine years, the former Mary Mulvey; daughters, Mary Ellen Mutarelli and her husband John, Jane Ann Frail, Patricia Jones, Megan Zych and her husband Ed; sons, Harold and his wife Kathy, Michael and his wife Kathleen, and Brian; grandchildren, John, Meghan, Kaitlyn, Thomas, Alyssa, Jason, David, Nicole, Sarah, Mary Elizabeth, Michael John, and Brian; three great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews, other family, and friends will miss him immensely.

Join the Celebration of Hap's Life during visitation from 4 to 6 PM on Saturday, June 26, 2021, at McLaughlin's, 142 South Washington Street in Wilkes-Barre.
