Helen Marie Marr, 93, of Wilkes-Barre died Wednesday at Wilkes-Barre General Hospital.
Born October 21, 1921 in Wilkes-Barre, she was the daughter of the late Paul L. and Emma Blaum Marr.
A graduate of Saint Ann's Academy, Helen studied music and earned her bachelor’s degree from Misericordia University and master’s degree from Columbia University.
Helen taught for several years before taking a position with American Red Cross in which she developed and implemented recreation programs for the Army at Walter Reed Army Hospital in Washington, DC and in Germany. She retired after a long career as a music educator at Misericordia University. A gifted teacher, she continued to give private piano lessons well into her 80s.
Helen was a member of Saint Nicholas Parish and was formerly active with Pennsylvanians for Human Life.
A brother, William Marr, preceded her in death.
Helen will be greatly missed by her brother, Paul L. Marr of Rockville, Maryland; nieces, nephews, other family and friends.
Celebration of Helen’s Life will be held Wednesday with Funeral Mass at 9:30 AM in the Church of Saint Nicholas, 224 South Washington Street in Wilkes-Barre.
