Helen Balavage Shilkoski, 96, passed away Tuesday, November 4th at Riverstreet Manor in Wilkes-Barre where she had resided for more than four years.
Born October 16, 1918 in the Lynnwood section of Hanover Township she was the last survivor of nine children born to the late Frank and Antoinette Paskauskas Balavage.
Helen married Walter Shilkoski and lived in the Breslau section of Hanover Township for most of her life. She was employed by Blue Ribbon Cake Company in Kingston and later by Miners National/United Penn Bank.
Helen was a lifelong member of the Church of Saint Casimir and a former member of the Ladies Auxiliary of Breslau No. 5 Volunteer Fire Company.
Her husband, Walter, son, Walter, Jr. and devoted daughter, Janice preceded her in death.
Helen will be greatly missed by her niece and faithful caregiver, Rose Feddock; family friends, Mary, Nancy and John Lynch; numerous nieces and nephews; friends, including Angie Murray, and especially her best buddy, Beaudette.
Helen's family thanks everyone at Riverstreet Manor, from receptionist Carol Metzger to the staff at Nursing Station 2, especially Karen Yale, RN, for their concern and compassion in caring for Helen.
Celebration of Helen’s Life will be held Friday with visitation from 9 to 9:30 AM at McLaughlin’s, 142 South Washington Street in Wilkes-Barre and Funeral Mass at 10 AM in the Church of Saint John the Baptist in Larksville. Interment will be private.
