John E. Allen, 79, of Luzerne died Sunday at his home.
Born November 27, 1934 in Luzerne he was a son of the late John and Elsie Powell Allen.
After graduating from Luzerne High School he continued his education at Wilkes University and later earned his degree from Saint Joseph's University in Philadelphia.
A Marine Corps veteran of the Korean Conflict he honorably served our country from 1953 to 1961.
Jack taught in elementary schools in New Jersey for ten years before returning to the Wyoming Valley. Before retiring in 1995, he was a well-known bartender at Pileddgi's Restaurant in Kingston for more than twenty-five years.
Jack was a member of the King David Lodge, F&AM, Caldwell Consistory, Irem Temple Shrine, Irem Golf League and Luzerne American Legion.
His wife, Julia Bednar Allen died August 27, 1995 and a daughter, Cynthia also preceded him in death.
He will be greatly missed by his children, Jack and David Allen, Julie Worley and Jimmy Allen, all of New Jersey; grandchildren; great-grandchildren; his first wife, the former Julia Brown of Exeter; other family and friends.
Celebration of Jack’s Life will be led by Reverend James C. Quinn at 10 AM on Thursday at McLaughlin’s, 142 South Washington Street in Wilkes-Barre. Interment will be in Mount Olivet Cemetery in Carverton.
Visitation will be held at McLaughlin's on Wednesday from 5 to 7 PM.
Memorial donations may be made to Celtic Hospice or Shriner's Hospitals.
