James Oliver Butterwick, 90, a recent resident of Forty Fort slipped away peacefully on Monday.
Born June 22, 1922 in Philadelphia he was a son of the late Oliver Grant Butterwick and Ethel Irene Creasing Butterwick, both of whom passed away when he was a child. He lived with and was cared for by uncle and aunt, Peter and Sally Creasing Lamb.
James attended Saint John's School and was a member of the Class of 1941 of James M. Coughlin High School.
James enlisted with the Marine Corps and served from 1942 to 1945 in the Pacific Theater during World War II.
In September of 1946 he was married to Loretta Regina Beckley. They celebrated their 62nd wedding anniversary before her passing on January 4, 2009.
He will be greatly missed by his son, James Joseph and his wife Maria Groblewski Butterwick; daughter, Nancy Ann Butterwick (Gorts); grandchildren, Ian James Butterwick, Leah Marie Butterwick and Jessica Lynn Gorts.
In accord with his wishes, and those of his family, a private visitation will be held at McLaughlin’s – The Family Funeral Service.
Family and friends are invited to share in the celebration of a Funeral Mass on Friday at 10 AM in the Church of Saint Aloysius, Barney and Division Streets in Wilkes-Barre. Interment will be in Saint Mary’s Cemetery in Hanover Township.
