James B. Evans, 80, a longtime Newark, Delaware resident, passed away peacefully on February 21, 2023.
Born February 10, 1943 in Wilkes-Barre he was the son of the late Benjamin Evans and Catherine Needham Tershak.
James attended E.L. Meyers High School. He left school at seventeen to enlist in the United States Marine Corps and served our country honorably from 1960 to 1964.
After his time in the service, James continued his education informally and was mainly self-taught. He invested in many business ventures and was the former owner of Wrangle Hill Industrial Park in Delaware.
A fearless adventurer, James traveled throughout the U.S. and abroad. He learned to fly planes and loved billiards with friends, trips to Yellowstone and Grand Canyon, and photography.
His sons James B. Evans, Jr. and Michael Evans of Wilmington, Delaware; three grandchildren; sister, Betty Evans Farrell of Alexandria, Virginia; nieces, a nephew; other family and friends will miss him very much.
Celebration of James' Life begins Friday, March 3, 2023, with visitation from 4 to 6 PM at McLaughlin's, 142 South Washington Street in Wilkes-Barre. It continues there on Saturday, March 4, 2023, with a gathering at 9 AM followed by a Funeral Mass at 10 AM in the Church of Saint Mary of the Immaculate Conception.
