James S. McKeown, Doc, 76, of the East End section of Wilkes-Barre died Monday, September 13, 2021.
Born January 23, 1945 in Wilkes-Barre he was the son of the late James P. and Mary McDonough McKeown.
A graduate of Coughlin High School, Jim continued his education, earning a BA from King's College, MA from Duquesne University, and Ph.D. in History from Penn State University.
Dr. McKeown started his 52-year teaching career at Central Catholic High School, remaining there through its transition to Bishop O'Reilly High School, then moving to Holy Redeemer High School before retiring last year.
Jim was a longtime member of the Parish of Holy Saviour and it successor, the Parish of Saint Andre Bessette, and Our Lady of Czestochowa Assembly, Fourth Degree, Knights of Columbus Assumpta Council 1928 in Luzerne.
His wife, Linda Schilling McKeown, preceded him in death on January 11, 2007.
His son, Sean and his wife Stephanie Boback; a sister-in-law, Rebecca Mullen; nieces, Denise and Sandra; other family and friends will miss him very much.
Celebration of Doc's Life begins Thursday, September 16th with visitation from 5 to 8 PM at McLaughlin's, 142 South Washington Street in Wilkes-Barre and continues there on Friday, September 17th with gathering at noon followed by a Funeral Mass at 1 PM in the Church of the Parish of Saint Andre Bessette. Burial will be in Saint Mary's Cemetery.
