Joan A. Shea of Hanover Township passed away on Friday, May 22, 2015 at Mercy Center on the campus of Misericordia University in Dallas.
Joan was born on January 9, 1936 in her family home located on the corner of St. Mary's Road and South Main Street. She was the daughter of the late Paul Timothy Shea and Marie Bohn Shea.
A graduate of Hanover High School, Class of 1953, Joan received her nursing degree in 1956 from the Mercy Hospital School of Nursing and later earned a B. S. degree in Nursing Education from Misericordia University.
She then went on to become a faculty member at the Mercy School of Nursing. This was followed by a position as a school nurse with the Hanover Area School District for many years until she retired in June, 1998.
She enjoyed socializing with her many family members, school colleagues and friends. Joan especially liked vacations at the Jersey shore with Spring Lake, NJ as one of her favorite places to go.
A sister, Mary Margaret Phillips preceded her in death on October 7, 2008.
Joan will be greatly missed by all who knew her, including her sisters, Pauline Shea Johnston, Colorado and Barbara Shea Shuba, New Jersey; nieces, nephews, other family and friends.
Family and friends are invited to celebrate her life on Thursday, May 28, 2015 at 10 AM when a Funeral Mass will be celebrated in the Church of Saint Aloysius at Barney and Division Streets in Wilkes-Barre.
Memorial donations are preferred and may be made to your favorite charity in memory of Joan Ann Shea.
