John G. Connell

John Gerard Connell, 79, of the East End section of Wilkes-Barre, passed away on June 7, 2023.

Born October 12, 1943 in Nanticoke a son of the late Philip and Mary Bohen Connell, John and his brother were raised by their grandmother, Helen Louise Bohen, after the early deaths of their parents.

A 1962 graduate of Marymount High School in Wilkes-Barre, John worked for General Cigar in Nanticoke and Roth American in Wilkes-Barre for many years before retiring from Cornell Iron Works in Mountain Top on July 31, 2009.

John was a member of the parish of Holy Saviour where he served as a Eucharistic Minister until its consolidation. He enjoyed country music, was a diehard Pittsburgh Steelers fan, and still loved Mickey Mantle despite trading away his rookie card in 1952.

His brother, Richard E. Connell, preceded him in death on February 14, 1967. On September 16, 1978 he married the love of his life, Bernadine Marie Harvey.

His wife Bernadine; son John Connell and his wife Fariba Kanga of Arizona; other family and friends will miss him very much.

Celebration of John's Life takes place on Monday, June 12, 2023, with visitation beginning at 11:30 AM followed by a Funeral Liturgy at 12:30 PM at McLaughlin's, 142 South Washington Street in Wilkes-Barre.
