John Gittins, 90, of River Road in Hanover Township died Saturday at Hampton House.
Born April 30, 1920 in Kingston he was a son of the late John L. and Gertrude Rose Gittins.
John was a veteran of General Patton's Army. He received a Purple Heart medal for injuries sustained in the Battle of the Bulge while serving in the European Theater.
After the war John accepted a position with the Department of the Navy. He worked in the Naval Records area until his retirement in 1975.
Following retirement, John returned to live in Kingston for a few years before relocating to Hanover Township in 1980. He remained active as an attendant and assistant for the Lisman Funeral Home in Wilkes-Barre for many years.
Brothers, Phillip, Robert and William Gittins preceded him in death.
Surviving are his wife, the former Huichul Yi and several nieces and nephews.
Celebration of John’s Life will be held Wednesday at 12:30 PM from McLaughlin's Family Funeral Service, 142 South Washington Street in Wilkes-Barre with Funeral Mass at 1 PM in Church of Saint Nicholas. Interment will be in Saint Nicholas Cemetery in Shavertown.
Visitation will be held at McLaughlin’s on Wednesday from 12 to 12:30 PM
