John Joseph Kazanecki

May 5, 1935 — February 28, 2023

John Joseph Kazanecki, 87, of Washington Square in Wilkes-Barre, passed away peacefully at his home on Monday, February 27, 2023.

Born May 5, 1935 he was a son of the late John and Julia Goravitch Kazanecki.

John grew up in Miners Mills and graduated from Coughlin High School. Discharged as a Corporal of the Marine Corps, he honorably served our country for more than five years.

John worked as a carpenter for many years for local and distant construction projects. The Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission employed him before retiring.

John was a warm-hearted and patient man who enjoyed fishing. Everyone who knew him loved him.

His wives, the former Bernice Zimmerman and the former Mary Ann Ruotolo Vermac, preceded him in death.

His son John and his wife Karen 'Kody' Kazanecki; daughter Mary Klassen-Fischer; grandchildren John William Dmitri Kazanecki and Kalina and Harold 'Hal' Fischer; sister Patricia Grigaitis; niece Kathleen (Paul) Scavone; nephews William and David Grigaitis; step-children Laura (Jim) Tavella, Marie Milewski, and Casimer (Keri) Vermac; great-nieces; step-grandchildren; other family and friends will miss him very much.

Celebration of John's Life takes place Thursday, March 2, 2023, from 5 to 7 PM at McLaughlin's, 142 South Washington Street in Wilkes-Barre.

Donations to the SPCA of Luzerne County are preferred and will honor John's memory.
