John J. McGlynn

April 27, 1933 — September 18, 2015

John J. McGlynn, 82, of Wilkes-Barre died Friday at his residence.

Born April 27, 1933 in Wilkes-Barre he was a son of the late John B. and Margaret Mary Brice McGlynn.

Jack honorably served our country with the Army during the Korean Conflict.

Jack was a professional boxer for several years. He competed in Golden Gloves competitions, was undefeated in fifty-one bouts and was inducted into the Wyoming Valley Boxing Hall of Fame. A lover of jazz, he could be found tending bars in many different places through the years and retired from the Wilkes-Barre Area School District after twenty years of service.

Jack will be greatly missed by his wife, the former Celine Setzer; daughter, Kathy Stumph of Elk, Washington; siblings, Patrick McGlynn of Larksville, Thomas McGlynn of Lake Winola, Peggy Paradis of Wilkes-Barre and Michael McGlynn of East Brunswick, New Jersey; nieces, nephews, other family and friends.

Jack’s entire family is grateful for the compassionate care he received from Dr. John Kish and the staffs of Little Flower Manor, Allied Services and Hospice of the Sacred Heart.

Celebration of John’s Life will begin Sunday with visitation from 2 to 5 PM at McLaughlin’s, 142 South Washington Street in Wilkes-Barre and continue there Monday with gathering at 8:30 AM followed by a Funeral Mass at 9:30 AM in the Church of Saint Nicholas.

Memorial donations are preferred and may be made to the Wounded Warriors Project.
