John T. Burke, 84, of Wilkes-Barre died Tuesday at Hospice Community Care.
Born 29 July 1924 in Sugar Notch he was the son of the late John T. and Esther Roche Burke.
A graduate of Saint Leo's High School in Ashley, he continued his education at Wilkes-Barre Business College and through several employer sponsored management courses.
An Army veteran of World War II, he served in the European Theater and fought in several battles and campaigns including the invasion of Normandy.
John started his career with the United States Postal Service as a letter carrier in 1951 and retired as a supervisor in 1975.
He was a member of Saint Dominic's Parish in Parsons, National Postal Mail Handlers Union, National Association of Letter Carriers, VFW Post 283, Kingston, American Legion Post 815, Wilkes-Barre Township and Disabled American Veterans, Chapter 5, Nanticoke where he served as Past Commander.
Sisters, Mary Moyle and Regina Lawson preceded him in death.
Surviving are his wife of fifty-two years, the former Nancy Weaver
a sister: Theresa Heller of Wilkes-Barre Township
and numerous nieces and nephews
Funeral will be held Friday at 09:00 AM from McLaughlin Family Funeral Service 142 South Washington Street Wilkes-Barre with Funeral Mass at 09:30 AM in Saint Dominic’s Church. Interment will be in Chapel Lawn Memorial Park, Dallas.
