Joseph McGovern Hoegen

August 12, 1966 — February 27, 2018

Joseph McGovern Hoegen, 51, of Mechanicsburg, died unexpectedly on February 27, after complications from a chronic illness.

Born August 12, 1966, in Monterey, California, he was a son of the late Rev. Mr. Peter J. and Maureen McGovern Hoegen.

Joe was a 1984 graduate of Bishop Hoban High School, Wilkes-Barre, where he was a was a member of their championship swim team. He then was awarded a swimming scholarship to Gannon University in Erie. Joe was also an accomplished trumpet player. For many years, he worked as a title searcher for Hoegen & Marsh Law Firm, Wilkes-Barre. Joe will also be fondly remembered by many as a skilled bartender with a charismatic personality, most notably at Uptown at Courthouse Square Towers and The Woodlands Inn, both in Wilkes-Barre. For most of his adult life, Joe was employed in various capacities in the restaurant industry throughout eastern Pennsylvania. In more recent years, he was associated with TGI Fridays, Pilot Travel Center and the Darden Restaurant Group as both a manager and a corporate trainer for new restaurant openings.

Throughout his struggle with diabetes, Joe maintained a positive attitude and was a loving and devoted father to his daughter, Morgan.

He will be greatly missed by his daughter, Morgan Helene Hoegen of Mount Holly Springs. He is also survived by his brother, Frank and his wife Molly Hoegen of Kingston, sister, Rose and her husband, Joe Curtin, Richmond, Virginia, sister, Katie and her husband Bob Arensmeyer of Towson, Maryland and brother, Dan and his wife Amy Hoegen of Kingston Township. Joe was also a proud uncle of six nieces and six nephews, as well as two great-nieces and two
great-nephews.

Celebration of Joe's Life will be held on Saturday, March 3, 2018 with visitation beginning at 9:30 AM and followed by a Funeral Mass at 11 AM in the Church of the Immaculate Conception, 605 Luzerne Avenue, West Pittston.

In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully requests memorial contributions be made to the St. Vincent de Paul Kitchen, 33 East Northampton Street, Wilkes-Barre, PA 18701; or to the Osterhout Free Library, 71 South Franklin Street, Wilkes-Barre, PA 18701.
