Joseph D. Rodgers, 71, of Wilkes-Barre died Tuesday, November 6, 2018.
Born April 16, 1947 in Wilkes-Barre he was a son of the late Cornelius G. and Rita Dougherty Rodgers.
A graduate of Saint Mary’s High School, Joe worked for Carter Footwear for thirty years. After retiring from Carter, he was employed by Luzerne County in the offices of the Register of Wills and Sheriff for ten years.
Joe was a lifelong member of the Church of Saint Mary of the Immaculate Conception where he was active with its Holy Name Society.
Joe enjoyed Phillies baseball, NASCAR races, and betting at the track for all of the Triple Crown races each year. He was a collector of baseball cards and adored model trains. He had a passion for traveling, especially to Ireland and Hawaii where he traveled to see his beloved Fighting Irish of Notre Dame play.
A brother, Neal Rodgers, and sister, Rita Marie Rodgers, preceded him in death.
Joe will be greatly missed by his sister, Alice T. Rodgers; nieces, Erin Evans, Kelly Austin and Danielle Rodgers; nephews, George Evans, Tim Rodgers and Steve Rodgers; great-nieces and -nephews; great-great-nieces and -nephews; other family and friends.
Celebration of Joe’s Life will begin Sunday with visitation from 3 to 6 PM at McLaughlin’s, 142 South Washington Street in Wilkes-Barre and continue there on Monday with gathering at 8:30 AM followed by a Funeral Mass at 9:30 AM in the Church of Saint Mary of the Immaculate Conception.
