Julie Mantione, 59, of Yatesville and formerly of Wilkes-Barre lost her courageous battle with cancer on Saturday.
Born July 31, 1950 in Kingston she was a daughter of the late Chester and Jennie Polomski Gutowski.
Julie was a 1968 graduate of West Side Central Catholic High School in Kingston, and worked for the General State Authority at Hickory Run State Park before raising her family.
A fantastic baker with a flair for decorating, she took great pride in being a homemaker and found tremendous happiness in spending time with her husband, daughters and grandchildren.
With a contagious smile and her way of placing the needs of others before hers, everyone who knew her loved her from the start. Julie received incredible joy and comfort from her close circle of friends. She was an avid golfer and a member of Wyoming Valley Country Club for the past twenty-eight years. Julie also donated a lot of her ‘time’ to the Mohegan Sun Reservation.
Throughout her illness, Julie maintained grace and dignity. She always remained upbeat and optimistic, even in her final days.
Surviving are her husband of thirty-seven years, Joseph C. Mantione; daughters, Nicole Mantione of Exeter, Tessa Mantione of Yatesville and Nina and her husband Brad Altavilla of Exeter; grandchildren, Grace, Nicholas and Julia Furcon and Mia and Marco Altavilla; sister, Barbara and her husband Leonard Penkrot of Shavertown; brother, Stanley and his wife Joann Gutowski of Michigan; nieces and nephews.
Family and friends are invited to share in the Celebration of Julie’s Life at the Church of Saint Therese, 25 Old River Road in Wilkes-Barre on Wednesday beginning at 10 AM. Mass will be celebrated at 11 AM.
Memorial contributions are preferred and may be made to American Cancer Society, 190 Welles Street, Suite 118, Forty Fort, PA 18704
