Kathleen Ziomek, 55, died in the presence of her family at her home in Drums on Tuesday.
Born September 7, 1960 in Wilkes-Barre she was a daughter of the late Joseph J. and Julie Bly Malesky.
A graduate of Meyers High School, Kathy studied nursing at Wilkes-Barre Area Vocational Technical School.
She practiced as a licensed practical nurse for several years. An employee of the Department of Veterans Affairs Medical Center for the past seventeen years, Kathy was a program analyst at the time of her recent retirement.
Kathy was a member of the Parish of Saint Jude in Mountain Top and received her sacraments at the Church of Saint Patrick in Wilkes-Barre.
Kathy enjoyed family vacations to beaches, scrapbooking and knitting.
Her husband, John J. Ziomek died August 2, 2012. A brother, William Malesky also preceded her in death.
She will be greatly missed by her sons, John and his wife Rachelle of Wyoming and Nicholas of Swoyersville; granddaughter and apple of her eye, Kaitlyn; twin-sister and best friend, Mary Mazonkey and her husband Dennis of Mountain Top; brothers, Joseph Malesky of Wilkes-Barre, John Malesky and his wife Rita of Olyphant, Robert Malesky of Mountain Top, and James Malesky of Harrisburg; nieces and nephews, including her godsons, Douglas Mazonkey and Michael J. Malesky; other family and friends.
Kathy’s entire family is grateful for Celtic Hospice for making her care at home possible, and for the many kindnesses of her extended family from the VA Medical Center.
Celebration of Kathy’s Life will begin Thursday with visitation from 5 to 8 PM at McLaughlin’s, 142 South Washington Street in Wilkes-Barre and continue there Friday with gathering at 9 AM followed by a Funeral Mass at 10 AM in the Church of Saint Patrick, 316 Parrish Street in Wilkes-Barre. Interment will be in Saint Mary’s Cemetery.
