Lillian Corbett Charters, 88, a former long-time resident of Bear Creek Township died Thursday at Inova Fair Oaks Hospital in Fairfax, Virginia.
Born in 1923 in Wilkes-Barre she was a daughter of the late John and Lillian Fluegel Corbett.
Lillian was a graduate of G.A.R. Memorial High School and Mercy Hospital School of Nursing in Wilkes-Barre. She completed her studies for a degree in nurse anesthesia at the University of Pittsburgh.
Lillian was a Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist at Nesbitt Memorial Hospital in Kingston for many years, and practiced at Nanticoke State Hospital at the time of her retirement.
Lillian was a member of the Parish of Saint Nicholas.
Her husband, James D. Charters died July 9, 2004. Her brothers, John and Paul Corbett and an aunt, Florence Winchester also preceded her in death.
Surviving are her children, Gail Charters of Lakewood, Colorado, James Charters of Mehoopany and Jay Patrick Charters of Fairfax, Virginia; and a brother, Bernard Corbett of Wilkes-Barre.
Celebration of Lillian’s Life will be held Thursday at 9 AM from McLaughlin’s, 142 South Washington Street in Wilkes-Barre with Funeral Mass at 9:30 AM in the Church of Saint Nicholas. Interment will be in Saint Nicholas Cemetery in Shavertown.
Visitation will be held at McLaughlin's on Thursday from 8 to 9 AM.
