Louis E. Cora, 90, a lifelong resident of Wilkes-Barre, passed away peacefully on Sunday, June 9, 2024.
Born July 25, 1933 in Wilkes-Barre he was the son of the late Louis M. and Gertrude Antonik Cora.
A 1951 J.M. Coughlin High School graduate, Lou worked as a lineman for Sordoni Construction for two years. He served our country honorably as a US Army Corporal during the Korean War.
Lou worked for Pennsylvania Power and Light, retiring as a head lineman after nearly forty years of service.
Lou was a member of the Korean War Veterans, Italian American War Veterans, Ashley American Legion, Slovak Heritage Society, North End Slovak Club, and Knights of Columbus, Council 302.
Lou was a fan of IndyCar Racing, especially the Indianapolis 500. He loved his dogs and enjoyed spending time with his family in his later years.
Lou's wife of fifty-one years, Jean Koch Cora, died on August 10, 2011. His grandson, Michael Zajaczkowski, and sister, Connie Hannon, also preceded him in death.
Lou's children Linda Garrison of Montrose, Louis M. and his wife Carmella of Mansfield, Maria Cora of Emmaus, Cathy and her husband Robert Domashinski of Glen Lyon, Edward A. and his wife Sue Cora of Mountain Top; grandchildren Eddie, Debbie, and Joey Zajaczkowski, Audrey, Dylan, and Tyler David, Rylie, and Aidan Domashinski, and Justin, Ryan, Logan, and Kayla Cora; great-grandchildren Mercedes, Hailie, Jacob, and Jordan Zajaczkowski, Michaela Waldrop, Kai and Emberly Zajaczkowski, Zayva and Lila Zajaczkowski, Logan Cora, and Theo and Archie David; nieces, nephews, other family and friends will miss him very much.
Celebration of Lou's Life begins Wednesday, June 12, 2024, with visitation from 5 to 8 PM at McLaughlin's, 142 South Washington Street in Wilkes-Barre. It continues there on Thursday, June 13, 2024, with gathering at 9 AM followed by a Funeral Mass at 10 AM in the Church of Saint Mary of the Immaculate Conception.
