Louis F. Goeringer

Louis F. Goeringer passed away early Tuesday morning after a lengthy battle with cancer.

Born in Wilkes-Barre on March 10, 1931 he was a son of the late Conrad F. and Josephine McGreevy Goeringer.

A graduate of Wyoming Seminary, he earned his degree in accounting from Villanova University. Upon graduation, he entered the United States Marine Corps and was commissioned a 2nd Lt. After receiving his honorable discharge, Lou began working for Bertels Metal Ware Co. He ultimately became the CEO of what had become Bertels Can Co. in the Hanover Industrial Estates.

Lou was highly active in many community organizations, including the Wilkes-Barre Chamber of Commerce, where he served as President, the Luzerne County Housing Authority as Commissioner for 30 years, at Misericordia University, he was a member of the President's Council, head of the Theatre 3 Campaign, chair of the annual fund, and was elected to the Board of Trustees for nine years. Lou was a Vice President of the Wyoming Seminary Alumni Association. He served on Villanova University's Alumni Board of Governors, receiving the President's Alumni Medal for outstanding service at his 20th reunion. Dear to his heart, Lou also served over 30 years on the Association of the Blind Board of Directors in each officer capacity, including chairman.

Known for his diplomatic, intelligent, and humble personality, he will be highly missed.

His first wife, Pauline Newcomb Goeringer, daughter Ellen Hungarter, son Conrad Goeringer, and grandson David Gates preceded him in death.

His wife Florence Moore Goeringer; children Louise and her husband Anthony Kondracki of Kingston, Paul and his wife Georgine Goeringer of Mountain Top, Mary Jo Goeringer of Hilton Head, SC, and Anne and her husband David Gates of Edwardsville; grandchildren Brad and his wife Jonie Kondracki, Michael and his wife Princess Kondracki, Steven and his wife Roxanne Kondracki, Christopher and his wife Elsa Gates, Adam Gates, Louis M. Goeringer, Jake Hungarter and his fiancée Kristen Kehlet, Conrad and his wife Alexandra Goeringer, and Brittany Goeringer and her fiancé Christopher Kolts; great-grandchildren Zoe, Zara, and Eva Kondracki, Anthony Kondracki, Maya and Lilly Gates, and Amelie Goeringer; step-children Paul and his wife Karen Updike of Bear Creek Village, Randall and his wife Carolyn Updike of Berwyn, and Clark and his wife Jill Updike of Ellicott City, MD; step-grandchildren Isabelle, Benjamin, Stephanie, Kimberly, Thomas, Jennifer, Kelia and Reece Updike will miss him very much.

Lou's entire family is grateful for the compassionate care he received from the staff of Allied Hospice.

Celebration of Lou's Life takes place in the Church of Saint Nicholas, 226 South Washington Street in Wilkes-Barre, on Saturday, November 25, 2023, with visitation beginning at 9 AM, followed by a Funeral Mass at 11 AM. Burial will be private.

Donations to Northeast Sight Services in Exeter, northeastsight.org, are preferred and will honor Lou's memory.
