Marcella McCormick Fay, 97, of Shavertown died Tuesday, September 25, 2018.
Born March 19, 1921 in Wilkes-Barre she was a daughter of the late Attorney Peter J. and Margaret White McCormick, pioneer residents of West River Street.
Marcella received her primary education from Saint Ann's Academy and graduated with the Class of 1939 of Wyoming Seminary. She earned her Bachelor of Arts degree in English from Rosemont College. Pennsylvania State University granted her full paralegal certificate.
The former Mercy Hospital, Disabled American Veterans and The American Association of University Women were a few of the recipients of her many hours of volunteer service in years past.
Her husband of fifty-one years, Joseph E. Fay, died June 3, 2001, and their daughter, Margaret White Fay, died April 24, 2010. A brother, Attorney John White McCormick, and a sister, Margaret McCormick Dineen, also preceded her in death.
Marcella will be greatly missed by her daughter, Carolyn (Christy) Fay, at home; nieces and nephews.
Celebration of Marcella's Life will begin Monday, October 1, 2018 with visitation from 6 to 8 PM at McLaughlin's, 142 South Washington Street in Wilkes-Barre and continue there on Tuesday, October 2, 2018 with gathering at 9 AM followed by a Funeral Mass at 10 AM in the Church of Saint Therese in Shavertown. Interment will be in Saint Mary's Cemetery in Hanover Township.
Memorial donations are preferred and may be made to Wyoming Seminary or Saint Joseph's Center.
