Margaret Ashford Bonk, 90, of Parrish Road in Laurel Run passed away peacefully at her residence on Monday, March 21st.
Born June 16, 1920 in Wilkes-Barre Township she was a daughter of the late Alfred and Louise Rettenmeyer Ashford.
Margaret attended Saint Joseph's School and Wilkes-Barre Township High School.
Prior to marriage to her beloved husband, the late Michael Bonk, Sr., she was employed in the local silk mill industry.
A devoted wife and mother, Margaret invested all of her time and energy into caring for her family. She was an excellent cook and baker, and shared generously with anyone who was hungry.
Margaret also enjoyed gardening, crocheting, genealogy and crossword puzzles. She also adored animals and took in any stray that came to her door.
Margaret was devout in her Catholic faith. She supported many Catholic and multi-denominational causes throughout her life. She was a former member of Saint Joseph's Monastery in Georgetown, and a current member of the Parish of Saint Nicholas.
In addition to her parents and husband, a son, Michael Bonk, Jr., granddaughters, Margaret and Diana, an infant sister, Mary Ashford, and brothers, Sgt. James, Alfred, Harry and William Ashford preceded her in death.
Margaret will be missed by her sons, Alfred of Laurel Run, John of Plymouth and Robert, at home; granddaughter, Judy Bonk, at home; grandsons, great-grandchildren; sisters, Dorothy Vukovich of Parsons and Anne Easton of Forty Fort; nieces, nephews and cousins.
Celebration of Margaret’s Life will be held Wednesday at 8:30 AM from McLaughlin's Family Funeral Service, 142 South Washington Street in Wilkes-Barre with Funeral Mass at 9:30 AM in the Church of Saint Nicholas. Interment will be in Saint Mary's Cemetery in Hanover Township.
Visitation will be held at McLaughlin's on Tuesday from 5 to 9 PM.
