Margaret C. Krummell, 87 died May 26th, 2010 in Palm Beach Gardens Florida from complications following open heart surgery.
Born August 11, 1922 in Wilkes-Barre Township, Margaret was one of twelve children of Apolinaris S. and Anna Grasavage Cilvik.
After graduating from Wilkes-Barre Township High School she attended business school in New York. She then moved to the Pocono Mountains where she resided for more than sixty years before moving back to Wilkes-Barre.
Margaret led a very active life in the Poconos. After marrying her husband Bill and starting a family she became a purchasing agent for the Buck Hill Falls Company until it closed. She was then employed by Pocono Manor in a similar position which she held until being stricken with cancer in 1992. Feisty in nature and determined not to let the cancer beat her; she was 17 1/2 years cancer free. Her doctors were amazed by the will she had to fight the disease and considered her case to be a miracle.
"Peg" as she was affectionately known, was an avid reader and could polish off two or three books a week. If there was a New York Post in sight you had better hold on tight or you would have to fight her for it! She was also addicted to word find books and was knowledgeable in almost any subject. Her memory, both long term and short term, was amazing. She was a sports enthusiast, but golf was her greatest pleasure to watch on TV and she could name all the players by sight.
Peg was a long time member of the Barrett Woman's Club where she served as president and was very active with many committees including the annual favorite Halloween parade. She was also very active in the community volunteering for numerous committees. She was also a card shark, while playing with her many friends.
Throughout her life, Peg kept Hallmark and the US Postal Service in business. Never was there a day that went by that she did not have cards and letters going out to someone (even the day before her surgery). She will be greatly missed by all her friends and family.
Margaret was preceded in death by her parents, her husband; William F. Krummell, her son; William Scott Krummell, and her siblings; Matilda VanDyke, Anna Killian, Regina Cilvik, Bernard Cilvik, Stella Werkmann, Catherine Cilvik and Edward Cilvik.
Surviving are her daughters; Lore Majikes and her husband Frank and Robyn Carroll and her husband Dan, grandchildren; Tracy Huey and her husband Mike, Jennifer and Scott Majikes, and Casey and Andy Carroll, great grandchildren; Natalie and Logan Huey, siblings; Marie Avery, Carl Cilvik and Joan Booth and many nieces and nephews.
God bless you mom, gram, little grammy, "Peg of my heart" ...friend! We love and miss you.
Peg’s life will be celebrated in a Funeral Mass on Thursday at 10 AM in the Church of Saint Mary of the Immaculate Conception in Wilkes-Barre.
Visitation will be held in the church beginning at 8:30 AM.
