Marilyn ‘Marney’ Miele, 92, of Washington Square Apartments in Wilkes-Barre died Friday at Celtic Hospice.
Born June 5, 1922 in Wilkes-Barre she was a daughter of the late Joseph and Charlotte Haney Simmers.
Marney was a 1940 graduate of G.A.R. Memorial High School.
Before retiring in 1986 Marney was a personnel administrator at Kinder Manufacturing in Wilkes-Barre.
A member of Wyoming Valley Presbyterian Church, Marney was a longtime member of Christ United Presbyterian Church where she sang with the choir for fifty-five years, twice served as a Deacon, and was secretary of its Sunday school for twenty-five years. She served with the Wyoming Valley Council of Churches for several years and crocheted lap robes for nursing home residents. At Washington Square she was active with R.S.V.P. and was a member and past president of its residents club.
Marney was preceded in death by her husband, Phillip in 1967, son, Tony in 2005 and sister, Audrey Slovinski in 1999.
She will be greatly missed by her grandson, Jason and his wife Melissa Miele of Sugarloaf; granddaughter, Jocelyn and her husband Bobby Gebhardt of Shavertown; great-grandchildren, Ethan, Isabella and Sophia Miele; daughter-in-law, Yvonne Miele of Wilkes-Barre; nieces and nephews, including MeriEllyn and her husband Bob Sobeck of Trucksville and Jay Slovinski of Scranton; other family and friends.
Celebration of Marney’s Life will be held Monday at McLaughlin’s, 142 South Washington Street in Wilkes-Barre with visitation beginning at 11 AM. Reverend Harold Armstrong, her pastor will lead funeral services at 1 PM. Interment will be in Chapel Lawn Memorial Park.
