Mary Dougherty Bambrick of Wilkes-Barre died Friday morning, September 14th, at her home in the presence of her loving family. At the time of her passing Mary was under the care of Celtic Hospice.

Born in Wilkes-Barre Mary was the daughter of the late Bryan and Catherine Munley Dougherty who had emigrated from County Mayo, Ireland prior to her birth.

She was a member of the 1938 graduating class at Saint Leo’s High School in Ashley.

During World War II Mary had been employed by Glen Martin Defense Plant in Baltimore, Maryland. She later returned to the area and had been employed by I. Miller Shoe Factory. At the time of her retirement Mary had been employed as a teacher’s aide by the Wilkes-Barre Area School District for over twenty years.

Mary will be remembered as a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great- grandmother.

She was a member of the Parish of Saint Andre Bessette and a communicant at the Church of Holy Savior in East End.

Mary was preceded in death by her six brothers, Bernard, Joseph, James, Leo, Terrance, and Gerald Dougherty.

She will be greatly missed by her husband, Robert, with whom she would have celebrated sixty- three years of marriage on November 12, 2012; her sister, Kathleen Shannon of Houston, Texas; daughters, Cathy and her husband John Kratz of Ashley, Molly and her husband Dennis Bieryla of Plains, Eileen and her husband Jim Brislin of Wilkes-Barre, and Betty and her husband Joe Keating of Hanover Township; grandchildren, Maura Banford, John and Patrick Kratz, Ann O’Donnell, Dennis and Katie Bieryla, Jay Brislin, Brian and Bridget Keating; great-grandchildren, Matthew and Mary Kate Banford, Emma and Molly Kratz, Nora O’Donnell, Joseph and Emily Bieryla, Drew and Addison Keating.

Celebration of Mary’s Life will be held Monday at 8:45 AM from McLaughlin’s – The Family Funeral Service 142 South Washington Street in Wilkes-Barre with Funeral Mass at 9:30 AM in the Church of Holy Saviour. Interment will be in Saint Mary’s Cemetery in Hanover Township.

Visitation will be held at McLaughlin’s on Sunday from 4 to 7 PM.

If desired memorial donations may be made to the Parish of Saint Andre Bessette, or Saint Vincent DePaul Kitchen.
